He spent the first eight years of his life in a small village in rural China where there was no electricity at all. At night, his parents had to check his bed for snakes under the dim light of a kerosene lamp. When power finally came to his community, it was safer at night, it was easier to read and study, and televisions brought information and perspectives from around the globe into his community.
